I think its worth watching Clannad before. Kira (Light) and L meet, and Light joins the team tasked with investigating the Kira case. There have been various Anime adaptions and movies produced as well, so it’s good to see some love for the series with it finally making its way to US shores. In my opinion yes, Clannad is on Netflix and Clannad After Story is on KATSU. This film is the sequel to the first opus, released in 2006 in Japan. This is some decent news considering Clannad has been acclaimed as one of the best visual novels to ever come from Japan.

If you watch this movie and then the TV show it will. The movie essentially tried to cram all the events from Clannad and After Story into a short 2 hours. As you can see from above, this movie came before the TV series, but it is supposed to be viewed last. The bilingual release will be some time in April of 2011, with those who already own the subtitled copy able to trade their version in for the bilingual copy. The movie is an adaptation, not a continuation. The After Story is a special route unlocked inside of the Clannad game once every story was completed and follows the aftermath of the main character’s confession.
